Jesse graduated from UNR in 2019 and now rotates between Reno Little Theater, Bruka, and Good Luck Macbeth as a Lighting Designer/Technician. Their most recent lighting project was “Evil Dead” at Good Luck Macbeth, and I am currently working on designing lights for “Small Mouth Sounds” at Reno Little Theater.
Jesse is asexual and gender-fluid, and uses They/Them pronouns.
Jesse’s artist statement for this exhibit:
Humans have always been storytellers. For thousands of years we have enjoyed hearing the stories of others, both real and fictional, and learning from their triumphs, their struggles and their day to day experiences. Artists have had to fight for centuries to tell the stories of the LGBTQ community. Even though things are arguably better today than they ever have been for representation in the media, big entertainment companies are still trying to silence the stories of the queer community. However, we will never be silenced. Through the hard work and sacrifices of storytellers, we have been able to have our stories heard.
This collection is an homage to the Queer People and Characters in popular media that helped me come to terms with my own identity. Each person in this collection helped me love and accept myself in some way, and deserve to be celebrated.
